About the Fund
You give, we give back
What is the West End Community Fund's (WECF) role?
The WECF has been set up to direct donations made to the West End Water Fountain to worthwhile community projects and causes. The Fountain has been dispensing fresh filtered water since 2000, however in 2002, a donation was asked for the use of this water. The Adelaide Bank Charity Fund was originally charged with managing the distribution of donations made until the WECF was established in January 2009. Presided over by a committee comprising of members of the West End Brewery as well as independent community-based representatives, it's a forum for making sure the money YOU donate goes back into YOUR community.
Where does the funding come from?
Funds are raised from donations that locals make for drawing water from the West End Water Fountain on Port Road. These donations are directed to the West End Community Fund and are its only source of funds. In other words, all the money is contributed by locals - and we make sure it goes back to helping locals too.
How are the funds used?
The basic aim of the WECF is to direct help to South Australian communities - in particular when there's a need for a special community facility or folllowing a disaster. We may also elect to donate funds to worthy causes in other states, on a case by case basis. The Fund prefers to donate goods and services rather than financial grants, and attempts to use local suppliers and tradespeople wherever possible. This optimises the value for money of our donations, while supporting businesses in the community at the same time.
Does it work?
Donations from the West End Water Fountain have already reached amazing levels. In fact, the Fountain has raised over $1 million since June 2002 - and that money is all returned to the community to support worthwhile causes. The WECF has been set up to continue this great work.
How do I apply for WECF support?
Groups working on a community project and neighbourhoods in need are welcome to apply to the WECF for support. Detailed information is provided here
